Remembering John Mackie: The Mackie Quaich Returns to the Fairways

Rotarians and guests recently gathered at Mid Kent Golf Club for the 22nd and final Mackie Quaich, a cherished tradition honoring the memory of John Mackie. Rotarian Simon Lancaster claimed victory in the friendly competition, which was followed by a celebratory meal at the Three Daws. Despite the weather, the event successfully celebrated years of community spirit.

On Tuesday, June 9th, Rotarians, past members, and guests gathered for the 22nd and final Mackie Quaich, a beloved golfing tradition honoring the memory of past Rotarian John Mackie.

John inaugurated the competition some 20 years ago, traditionally held at the Mid Kent Golf Club, and this year was no exception. Ex-Rotarians, friends, and current members of Gravesend and Meopham, Gravesham with Ebbsfleet, and beyond joined in the friendly competition to win the coveted trophy.

Congratulations to Rotarian Simon Lancaster, who swung his way to victory and claimed the cup this year!

Following the tournament, competitors were joined by Club President Simon Grierson and Ian Mackie, John’s son, at the Three Daws for a celebratory meal and prize giving.

A special thank you to Rotarian Bob Grieves for organizing this year’s successful event, proving that even a little inclement weather can’t dampen the Rotary spirit!
